Wynn - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 1999. She was retired from research and arrived at JF in 2014. Wynn was a brave girl who was quick to begin exploring out in her habitat when she arrived. She loved to climb in the bamboo and find any bugs who tried to hide from her. In July 2021 the care staff noticed an injury to Wynn's abdomen area. Sadly shortly after she passed away. .
Snickers - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 1999. He was retired from research with his friends in 2014 and came to JF. Snickers lived with his twin sister and was very protective of her. He liked to explore out in his habitat but he was quick to run inside if he thought something more exciting was going on in there. One day in December 2020 Snickers passed away. It seems Munchknland has had so many deaths that have gone untold.
Sailor - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 2001. He was retired from research and came to JF in 2015. Sailor was one of the more adventurous boys from the lab group. He was always ready for new adventures and quick to check out any changes made to his habitat. In June 2021 Sailor passed away - yet another monkey with no mention of his death or explanation for why he passed.
Mr. Ed – a cotton top tamarin – was born in 2005. He was also retired from research and arrived at JF in 2014. Mr. Ed was a very handsome guy. He was often seen chasing bugs and exploring in his habitat. Like many of his friends who retired from the same lab – Mr. Ed enjoyed laying in the Florida sunshine and being outside. Sadly, in November 2021 Mr. Ed passed away. So many of these precious soles have passed with no mention to the donors or memorials to honor them.
Lisa – a cotton top tamarin – was born in 2003. She was retired from a research lab in 2014 and arrived at JF. Lisa was quick to venture outside once arriving at JF. She was a pretty low-key girl - enjoying the Florida sun and watching her neighbors each day. Then in July 2020 Lisa passed away. Her death not spoken about in hopes no one would find out.
Hershey – a cotton top tamarin – was born in 1996. He was lucky enough to be retired from research and arrived at JF in 2008. Hershey was one who loved his time outside in his habitat. At times he enjoyed it so much he would fall asleep in the plants and blend in so well the care staff would panic trying to find him. When he would wake up and come strolling back into view he acted as if he had no idea why everyone was calling for him. Then one day in September 2021 Hershey’s days of napping in his habitat ended when he passed away.
Noah - a common marmoset - was born in 2006. He arrived at JF in 2008. Noah was a very adventurous boy who loved to climb through his habitat and forage for bugs. And like many of the marmosets - green beans were one of his favorite foods. In November 2020 Noah passed away. Another loss in Munchkinland that went untold.
Anna Claire - a brown capuchin - was born 1997. She was an ex-pet who arrived at JF in 2003. Anna Claire (also known as Anna Banana) was a very sweet girl. She loved to flirt with the care staff and was a great sister to Katie Scarlett. It was a very sad day in March 2021 when Anna Claire passed. Her death has been questioned as some feel it may of been preventable if leadership would of listened to the concerns of the care staff and provided Anna Claire the medical help she needed.
Editto - a cotton top tamarin - was born 2003. He was retired from a research lab and arrived at JF in 2014. Editto was unsure of the outside world when he first arrived at the sanctuary. It was a whole new world for so many when they came from the lab setting. Over time he became braver and learned that the outside habitat was actually a fun place to explore. Sadly in August 2020 Editto passed away and his death was kept a secret.
Momo - a black tufted marmoset - was born in 2008. He was an ex-pet that was confiscated by authorities and arrived at JF in 2010. Momo was an adventurous boy that enjoyed exploring in is habitat and chasing bugs. He always got very excited to see the care staff walking around nearby as he knew they would have yummie treats in their pockets. In April 2021 Momo passed away. RIP little boy - you death will not go unnoticed.
Tara - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 1995. Tara was a former pet and arrived at JF in 2006. Tara was a very well know girl in Munchkinland. The care staff loved her little old lady self. She was the one monkey they truly thought would live forever. The last few years she was pampered and spoiled with heating pads to sleep on and all the extra treats she loved. It was an extremely sad day in August 2021 when Tara passed away. A huge part of the care staff's hearts broke that day.
Floyd – a cotton top tamarin – was born in 2001. He arrived at JF in 2015 when he was retired from a research lab. Floyd was a handsome boy who spent his days laying in the runways grooming his girlfriend Tara (another cotton top tamarin). He also enjoyed watching his monkey neighbors as they explored in their habitats. In August 2020 Floyd passed away leaving Tara a widow once again.
Scar – a brown capuchin – was born in 2001. He was brought to JF when the WAO Sanctuary closed in 2010. Scar was a big boy who lived for many years with his buddy Larry. A few years ago, they had a falling out and were separated. After that Scar met some lovely ladies and was a very happy boy. Until one day in August 2020 when a care staff notice Scar did not come to the second food bowl that was passed out late morning. Sadly no one noticed that he did not come up to the first bowl passed out a few hours earlier. When they investigated further, Scar was found deceased in the habitat.
Alanna – a cotton top tamarin – was born in 2000. She arrived at JF in 2015 after retiring from a research lab. Like many of the cotton tops retired from research – Alanna loved exploring outside in her habitat and chasing bugs. She enjoyed lounging in the runways and soaking up the sunshine on warm days. Sadly Alanna passed in November 2021 and her death has been kept a secret like so many others. She was such a sweet girl who deserves to have her story told.
Delores – a cotton top tamarin – was born in 2002. She was retired from research in 2014 to JF. She loved to explore in her habitat especially after it was cleaned, and new props were added. Care staff would often see hanging out in the runway with her companion Newman watching everyone pass by. In November of 2021 Delores became ill and passed away.
Bruno – a common marmoset – was born in 2010. He was an ex-pet that arrived at JF in 2017. Bruno was not always the most social guy with new care givers and visitors. But you could win him over quickly if you had treats to offer him. The care staff learned that popcorn and green beans were favorites for Bruno and made sure to always have a stash available for him. Early in 2021 Bruno began to show sings of not feeling well. In February 2021 he passed away.
Annie – a white face capuchin – was born in 1990. She came to JFPS with her lifetime companion Ben in 2017. The journey of Ben and Annie from Illinois to JF was filmed for the documentary series Furthest from the Wild. This was to show the life Ben and Annie had living with humans and the transition of them moving to their new sanctuary life. Once at JF Annie was often seem tossing her boomer ball around in the habitat and playing with her best friend Ben. In early November 2021 Annie passed away. This is another death that was kept a secret from everyone including her humans. Sadly, now Ben is left alone for the first time in his life.
Loopy - a brown capuchin - was born in 2001. In 2010 he was brought to JF after another sanctuary closed down. Loopy lived with he best friend "Dumbo" for many years at JF. Then last few years of his life he was introduced to the sweet "charlie girl". In August 2020 Loopy passed away. His death has been questioned by many and is believed to of been from the lack of medical care.
Alas -a cotton top tamarin that - was born in 2001. She was retired from a lab and arrived at JF in 2014. Alas loved to chase - catch - eat bugs once she started exploring out in her habitat. She was a very sweet girl. In July 2020 she passed away. Like so many others - her death has been kept a secret.
Wild Bill - a brown capuchin - was caught in the wild and estimated to of been born around 1985. Before arriving at JF in 2005 - he was stolen from the wild and sold into the research world for iron toxicity studies. The research lab that Wild Bill and others were sold to was over seen by Dr. Collins - the current vet of record for Jungle Friends. Wild Bill was an older guy that kept to himself and enjoyed exploring his habitat and climbing in the plants. He also loved shelled nuts. In December 2020 Wild Bill passed away. Yet another death that went unmentioned to his supporters.
Timber - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 2002. He was retired from research and arrived at JF in 2015. Timber was a more reserved cotton top. He lived with his girlfriend Rosa who ruled the relationship. He was such a sweet and laid back boy. In October of 2021 Timber passed away.
Lindsey - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 2001. She was retired from research in 2014. Like a few other research cotton tops - Lindsey was shy when she first arrived at JF. Over time she became more confident and enjoyed exploring her habitat and chatting with her friends. Sadly in October 2020 - Lindsey passed away.
Tiki - a common marmoset - was born in 2006. He was transferred to JF from another sanctuary in 2009. Tiki loved to lounge in the habitat and enjoy the Florida sunshine. He was chatty with his neighbors and gave a great "stink face" when someone came by and he was not in the mood for visitors. In November 2020 Tiki passed away. Another death that was kept a secret to all.
Zeke - a brown capuchin -was born in 2005. He arrived at JF in 2012 with his brother Pip. Zeke was very flirty boy with the care staff. He also could be an instigator at times and cause drama amongst his neighbors. He was quick to check out his diet bowl each morning and really liked it when he found corn and oatmeal in is bowl. Then in December 2020 Zeke passed away. His death is concerning to past care staff because he had no health concerns in the prior years to his death.
Charles Manson – a brown capuchin – was born in 1987. He was used in the same research lab that Dr. Collins (JF’s vet of record) oversaw for year. In 2005 Charles Manson was retired from research and arrived at JF. Charles Manson was a special boy that did not trust everyone. He was not fond of larger groups of people approaching him - he preferred one on one attention by the care staff he knew and trusted. He enjoyed hanging out in his habitat and flirting with his friends next door. Some of his favorite treats included – ensure, walnuts, pecans and pasta. He was a very spoiled and loved monkey. Sadly in December 2021 Charles Manson passed away after laying in his indoor for three days unable to eat or drink.

Cookie - a brown capuchin - was born in 2005. Cookie arrived as JF in 2013 after being kept as a pet. At JF Cookie was reunited with Mico and Mikki Moo who she was previously kept as a pet with. Cookie was the most shy of the group but a very sweet girl. She loved sleeping in her runway blankets on cold nights with her friends. In January 2022 Cookie passed away. Sadly the deaths are still occurring way to often.
Stumpy - a bolivian squirrel monkey- was born in 2001. He was retired from research in 2017. Stumpy was known for his love for bananas and being outside in his heat cave. Stumpy also loved carrying around his favorite toy, including taking it all the way to the top of his habitat and then dropping it while letting out a big scream. We learned that in December 2021 Stumpy passed away. The conditions of Stumpy’s last days are unknown but we hope that he did not suffer. Stumpy is another silent death at the sanctuary but he is missed by all of his previous caregivers.
Catman – a brown capuchin was born in 1987. He was in the same research lab that Dr Collins once a part of. He left the life in a lab and arrived at JF in 2016. Catman was a sweet boy that loved cashews and walnuts. He always had that inquisitive expression trying to figure out what the care staff were up to when they came by. Sadly, Catman was failed by JF like so many others. Care staff noticed he had bloody mucus in his nose, and it was brought to the attention of leadership. When it was suggested to take him to the offsite vet to be checked the ED stated he was too old to transport to the vet. Sadly he passed away in soon after in December 2021.
Gizmo Sr - a brown capuchin - was born in 1980. Gizmo Sr. arrived at the sanctuary in 2001. Gizmo Sr. was known for his large, perfect tuffs. He also loved food, especially peanuts. You could hear Gizmo Sr’s happy noises from multiple habitats away during feed out. Gizmo Sr was a very handsome monkey who loved to flirt with neighboring monkey friends. Unfortunately, Gizmo Sr passed away in December 2021 silently, without recognition from the sanctuary that was responsible for his care.
Mochi – a brown capuchin that came to JF as an infant in Oct of 2010 when the Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) closed - passed away the weekend after the USDA inspectors were out early February 2022.
Mochi was a young monkey at 11.5 years old with no prior health concerns. On Saturday Feb 5th in the morning and evening he was seen foaming at the mouth. On Sunday he was removed from the habitat and put in a squeeze cage and taken to the Founder/ED’s home for observation. At some point on Sunday, he began having seizures while under observation. Early Monday morning Feb 7th Mochi passed away.
Puchi - a brown capuchin - passed away April 2022. He arrived at JF back in 2004. Puchi was estimated to be around 45 years old when he passed.
Puchi was a very well known monkey and was loved by so many people. His one eye looked at you with so much love it just melted your heart. He was always so excited to meet new people and flirted with them all.
Puchi was a lucky one to have many monkey friends over the years to share his habitat and blankets with.
While we are saddened to learn of his passing there is also a sense of peace knowing he has been reunited with Wendell and ChiChi and so many of his monkey friends who have passed. And knowing he is no longer enduring the struggles other monkeys face at JF.
RIP sweet precious Puchi-Man.
Picasso - a black handed spider monkey - was born in 2005. He arrived at JF in January 2012. Picasso had the most beautiful blue eyes that caught everyone's attention.
Picasso loved grapes and cashews. He was often seen sitting in the corner of his runway waiting for his favorite caregivers to walk by.
In January 2022 Picasso was seen shaky and thinner than normal on a video posted by JF. Later that same week Picasso passed away. His death is another unexplained silent passing of a precious sole.
Yodel - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 2001. She was retired from research in 2017. She loved exploring in her outdoor habitat and chasing bugs in the trees and bushes. Sadly Yodel passed away in March of 2022. Yet another monkey to die a silent death.
Orsen - a cotton top tamarin - was born in 2001. He was retired from research and arrived at JF in 2015. Oren was known for is flirtatious behaviors with his cotton top neighbors an his favorite caregivers. In December of 2021 Orsen passed away.
Murphy Brown - a brown capuchin - was born in 1994. She was an ex-pet that arrived at JF in 2003. Murphy Brown was a favorite of everyone who met her. She had the sweetest personality and made friends fast with all of her monkey neighbors. Murphy Brown had diabetes and was on insulin injections each day - which she took like a champ. Unfortunately Murphy Brown passed away on September 29th 2021. While it is still unknown if her death could of been prevented - it is known that there was no emergency vet care given to try to save her life.
Poppi - a cotton top tamarin - who was born in 1997. He arrived at JF in 2015 after living in a research lab for many years. He enjoyed his time outside and was incredibly good at hiding in his habitat. The care staff were convinced he enjoyed watching then panic as they searched for him during health checks. Poppi passed away in December 2020.
Fiona – a brown capuchin – was born in 1983. She arrived as JFPS in 2011 when a roadside zoo closed down. Fiona- liked to keep her distance and was much less humanized than the other monkeys around her. She loved to explore, and really liked destroying/eating banana plants. She was very flirty with other males and even females sometimes. Everyone will agree that she was a very smart girl and kept the care staff on their toes when medicating her. In Dec 2020 Fiona passed away. Her death has raised questions as she had no health concerns prior to her passing away. We are still waiting on answers that may never be given.
Alaska – a cotton top tamarin – was born in 2000. In 2015 he was retired from a research lab and arrived at Jungle Friends. Like many of the cotton tops from research labs -Alaska enjoyed being outside chasing bugs and soaking up the sunshine. He wasn’t shy about letting the care staff know how he felt about them. He could say a lot when he looked at you. In September 2020, Alaska passed away. Another void was felt in munchkinland that day. And another death kept silent
Moe was a Cotton Top Tamarin, born in 2005. He lived as pet until he arrived at JFPS in 2017. His human wanted the best life for him and felt that would better accomplished by living with other cotton tops. Moe was unique among his tamarin friends in that he was very personable; he loved the attention of his caregivers, especially if his caregivers had dried pineapple! He never missed a chance to entertain the care staff even if it was just to fuss at them for removing too much bamboo from his habitat. It was a very sad day in August 2020 when he passed away. An even sadder part of this death is that JF never notified Moe’s human (who lives near the sanctuary) to tell her about his passing. She just recently learned about his death a year after he passed by an outside source.
Ernie Keebler - a common marmoset - that was born in 2002 and arrived at the sanctuary in 2007. Ernie was small for a male marmoset and when he first arrived, he was a bit reserved. Over the years he seemed to really enjoy his new home of a habitat full of plants and platforms to lounge around in the sun. (Before coming to JF he lived in a research lab never seeing the outside world.) Like many of the marmosets, Ernie liked to chase bugs and chatter at his neighbors. In October 2020 Ernie Keebler passed away. Munchkinland lost a sweet boy that day.
Joni - a White Fronted Capuchin - who was born in 1981. She was brought to JFPS in 2001 with her mom Gussie. She was well known for her spunk and plotting ways. Her back legs did not extend and therefore she could not use them for walking. She never let that slow her down as she learned how to balance and walk on her hands. She loved to threaten who ever came near - human or monkey. Joni passed away in February 2021. Her presence is surely missed by all of her monkey friends.
